PROEJECT: YOUNG INVENTORS, PHASE 3

Let’s continue with our project!!! We are in the third phase (there is one more left!!). So read carefully to know what you have to do.

Phase 3: Present your invention (slideshow, video, model, mural)
Once you have the idea and the prototype, it’s time to explain a little more about it. I want you to prepare a writing to explain your invention.

Take care of your spelling and the presentation. Look for the format you prefer to do this, you are totally free; the clue is that your invention has to be explained properly. Here you have the aspects that have to appear:
- what it consists of
- what it is for
- what materials it is made of
- what kind of people will use it
- and any other aspect that you consider relevant

PROJECT: YOUN INVENTORS, PHASE 2

Last week you detected different problems in daily life and you thought of different solutions for them. That was PHASE 1 of our project.

Today we start phase 2!!!

Phase 2:  Your prototype
What you have to do is to choose one of your ideas and design a prototype.
It has to be available, maybe you can’t make it because you need materials or technology to do it. But it has to be something you think it can be built.
So it’s time to choose one of your ideas, the one you like the most. Then paint or make a model of your prototype (choose the best way for you), explain briefly how it works.

Here you have my example:
Phase 1: Detect difficulties/problems and think of possible solutions
I choose the first problem I wrote last day. And I choose the first solution I thought of.
PROBLEM / DIFFICULTY
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Many times the soup is very hot and they burn their tongue.
- Something to cool the soup.
- Something to avoid soup be too hot

Phase 2:  Your prototype
And here is my prototype

NEW PROJECT!: Young inventors (Phase 1)

As you know, this month we start a new proyect: YOUNG INVENTORS. During these last weeks you have to open your mind and be as creative as you can to come up with an fantastic invention to make our daily lives easier. Let's start!!

First, let's watch these videos to take some ideas:

And now it's our turn!

Phase 1: Detect difficulties/problems and think of possible solutions

The point is to think about what people need and they don’t have yet. And then, think of the best way to make it possible. A great idea can be very simple, it doesn’t have to be complex.

You have to write some difficulties you or some people have, and one or some possible solutions. Here you have some examples:
PROBLEM / DIFFICULTY
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Many times the soup is very hot and they burn their tongue..
- Something to cool the soup.
- Something to avoid soup be too hot
Some people fall asleep sunbathing and burn their skin
- A sun detector with alarm that can measure the amount of tan.
- Something to tell us if we are turning red from the sun.
- A device that gives shade, even when the sun moves
In my room I have different lamps depending on the kind
of light I need. They occupy too much space
- A lamp that illuminates depending on the situation
- Something that holds all my lamps taking up little space.

SIMPLE MACHINES, THE LEVER

We start a new project!!: YOUNG INVENTORS.

To become a great invention and come up with a fantastic inventions, we have to start talking about simple machines. I know you know a little about this, but take a look at this videos to remember them better.

TO STUDY THIS WEEKEND

  Hello everyone!!

This weekend you have to study a little, please. Here you have everything I want you to review:

ENGLISH

Remember, English test will be on 4th June.

You have to review the structure of the sentences. You can use this slideshow:

You also have to review the irregular verbs. We have added ten more verbs, so you have to study till the verb "to swim":

NATURAL SCIENCE

Review all the concepts we have talked about: matter, mass, volume, density, types of matter, pure substances and mixtures, homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures, physical and chemical changes, states of matter. You have a lot of resources and activities on the blog and also the book.

I will collect the scientific's notebooks next week. Be sure it's clean and complete. If you missed one experiment because you didn't come, it doesn't matter.

There is time to do enjoy it and study, you just have to organize your time.

HAVE A REALLY GREAT WEEKEND!! 😘

MATTER: STATES

The last thing to talk about matter this year is about states of matter and changes of state. I know you have talk about this in third grade, so it's going to be easy.

To reviw this you can read page 78 of your natural science book.

Watch these two videos:

Take a look at this slideshow I prepared for you:

Full fill this activity: MATTER _ STATE CHANGES (worksheet).

Here you have an interesting experiment about states of matter you can do at home:

MATTER: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES

We already have talked about changes of state, do you remember? Today we have to talk about PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES. You read a little about this in page 78 of your book.

Watch these videos about physical and chemical changes:

Here you have an interesting experiment about changing states of matter. Let me know if you do it at home:

MATTER: DENSITY

 Hello, hello!

Today we talked about DENSITY. At home, you can start reading in your Natural Science book, pages 76-77.

Here you have different videos where they explain what density is:

In this other video you can see the experiment we did this morning.

You can try with this experiment at home and let us know how it works by sending a picture or a video.

Here you have some activities about density:

MATTER: mass and volume

Today we started to talk about MATTER. To review this a little at home, you should watch this video:

Then you should read pages 74-75 of our natural science book. where you will read about properties of matter.
You also could watch this video I recorded last year during the lockdown.

And finally, with all the information you got, you have to answer this form: MASS & VOLUME form

NATURAL SCIENCE TEST

 Hello!!

As we talked about, next week you will have to recognize what group different animals belong to. If they are invertebrate you will have only to say only the group (sponges, equinoderms, arthorpods, cnidarians, worms or molluscs. If it's an arthropods, you'll say also if it's an insect, crustacean, arachnid or myriapod.

If they are vertebrate you also will have to explain why you think so.

To review this, you can use this easy slideshows. Let me know if you have any questions, please.

Things about English and Natural Science test

  Hello,

This week I told you when you'll take some tests, please study and review during the weekend and let me know if you have any questions. Next week we'll do different activities about everything related to them.

Read these lines carefully about what you should study:

- ENGLISH

  • Speaking 8-9/03_ It'll consist of a conversation with Andrew using past simple tense.
  • Listening, reading, and writing 16/03_ Review units 3 and 4 vocabularies, past simple tense (in affirmative, negative, and interrogative), superlative adjectives
- NATURAL SCIENCE
  • Presentation 11-12/03_ in the calendar you can see when it'll be your turn. Remember you can't read, so you need time to prepare it.
  • Writing test 9/03_ You will have to recognize different animals and tell what group they belong to (vertebrate/invertebrate, mammals/reptiles/amphibians/fish/birds, molluscs/arthropods/worms/cnidarians/echinoderms, insects/arachnids/crustaceans/myriapods) and explain why you think that.
In this test it's important to write complete sentences using structures like these ones:
           - IT IS A _____ BECAUSE IT HAS... (legs, feathers, scales, fur, bare moist skin, fins, wings, tail, hot/cold blood, etc.)
           - IT IS A _____ BECAUSE IT IS... (aquatic, terrestrial, viviparous, oviparous,
           - IT IS A _____ BECAUSE IT CAN... (swim, walk, run, slither, fly, etc.)
           - IT IS A _____ BECAUSE IT BREATHES THROUGH...

Enjoy your weekend a lot, and try to review a little too.

SEE YOU ON MONDAY!! 😘

VIDEOS ABOUT INVERTEBRATE ANIMALS

There are hundreds of interesting videos about animals. We have watched some of the ones you have below. If you have time, take a look and enjoy them. We can learn a lot about nature from this kind of animals, especially to realize it's our dutty to take care of it.

VERTEBRATE AND INVERTEBRATE ANIMALS

Hello, hello!!

These days we are talking about animals, vertebrates and invertebrates. Here you have the slideshow I prepared for you. Remember, you don't have to study everything here, the fist part is just general culture about evolution.

You just have to know the difference between vertebrate and invertebrate animals, and their classifications (groups and their features).

And here you have some videos about vertebrate and invertebrate animals; watch them and let me know if you have any questions

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES

VERTEBRATE ANIMALS

VERTEBRATE ANIMALS' REPRODUCTION (ovíparous/viviparous)

VERTEBRATE ANIMALS' NUTRITION (carnivores/herbivores/onmivores)

INVERTEBRATE ANIMALS

Here you also have some activities you can do to ensure you know the differences between the different groups:

ANIMALS' PROJECT

As we talked about in class, here you have the link to access your presentation. This is the idea:

- Choose a current animal and its ancestor.

- Prepare a presentation about these animals talking about the characteristics they have in common and the characteristics they don't have in common.

- Try to explain the reason for their differences.

- If you want and have time, you can talk about more animals.

I think this picture will help you to understand better what I want you to talk about:
